Pet Crematory Encourages Visits

White Rose Pet Memorial Services - Brattleboro, Vermont
June, 2005

Recent news from Seabrook, NH about a negligent human crematory has prompted White Rose Pet Memorial Services of Brattleboro, Vermont to further encourage pet owners to visit its pet crematory. Pet owners who visit the facility and meet their pets' after-care providers will leave with confidence that their pets will be treated carefully and respectfully when the last days come. "Being prepared for the final steps in advance helps alleviate stress," says Steve Hellus, co-owner. To assure proper treatment of their beloved pets, pet owners should ask pertinent questions of their veterinarians who contract with after-care providers. What facilities do they use? Are the facilities open to pet-owner inspection? If not, caution is indicated. It is also helpful to seek counsel and recommendations from friends who have used various facilities.

There should be no doubt or skepticism in anyone's mind about a chosen after-care provider, whether human or pet. Pet owners should not rely on just any cremation service, but should do research for themselves and visit potential providers. Marilyn George, co-owner of White Rose says, "Red flags should go up if a pet crematory operator says, 'I'm sorry, but I cannot allow you to visit my facility,' or 'We do not allow family members to be present while the cremation process is occurring.' A pet owner must be proactive in making arrangements for the final dispositions of a pet and is entitled to know what options are available-and to know that the choice will result in the best care for the pet. The death of a pet is traumatic, and worrying that a pet after-care provider may not be providing the most professional, caring and dignified service is unnecessary and unacceptable."
